By doing this, you’ll have the biggest selection of room types. You also won’t have to pay a premium for booking at the last minute (or showing up without accommodation booked).

What Area to Stay In

Most people planning on attending the Full Moon Party stay in 1 of 3 main areas: Haad Rin, Baan Tai, or Koh Samui.

Haad Rin

If you want to be walking distance from everything, then Haad Rin is where you want to stay, but don’t stay right on Sunrise beach unless you really plan on staying out all night during the Full Moon Party.

The noise levels can be bothersome if you stay right on Sunrise beach in Haad Rin.

Baan Tai

For the purposes of this guide, we’ll refer to Baan Tai as everything up the west coast of Koh Phangan from Haad Rin to Thong Sala, where the pier is.

Staying in this area may get you slightly cheaper accommodation and a quieter atmosphere. But, you’ll have to catch a taxi to and from the Full Moon Party.

Koh Samui

If you’re planning on staying in Koh Samui, chances are you have a plan to holiday or vacation on this island and simply visit Koh Phangan for the Full Moon Party.

From Koh Samui, you’ll have to catch a ferry to and from Koh Phangan for the party along.

We’ve put this page together to help you learn more about each type of accommodation and check prices at your convenience.

Hostels

This accommodation type is often the cheapest. Found all over Europe, hostels are slowly becoming more common and popular in Asia, particularly Thailand.

In backpacker hotspots, like Koh Phangan, you can find lots of hostels. Hostels feature dormitory-style rooms that have anywhere from 4-24 beds.

Most hostels also have private rooms for 1-2 people, so even if you don’t want to be in a shared room, you can still enjoy the social atmosphere.

Hostels, particularly in the Haad Rin area, are a great value for those on a budget because beds are affordable, they are usually located within walking distance of Sunrise and Sunset beaches (some of are farther up Koh Phangan, though), and they offer a social atmosphere that you just can’t get with other accommodation types.

Hostels are a great way to save money and make new friends.

Guest Houses

Guest houses are probably the most common type of accommodation is Southeast Asia and Thailand. Often, they resemble large houses with private rooms usually suitable for 1-4 people.

They may even come with breakfast or feature a pool. Generally, these offer a great value for those looking for private accommodation in Koh Phangan. If you have 2-4 people in your group, it may be cheaper to book a guest house room then individual beds at a hostel; however, you give up the social atmosphere and risk being farther away from the party.

Bungalows

Similar to guest houses, bungalows offer private rooms usually for 1-4 people. However, bungalows are unique in that the rooms are typically separate individual units and overlook a beach or jungle. In Koh Phangan (and Koh Samui), there are several bungalow options available.

Prices are similar to guest houses, but you get the added benefit of having beautiful scenery at your doorstep. While some bungalows in Koh Phangan can be found in the Haad Rin area, most will be found in the Baan Tai area and other places on the island, so keep that in mind when planning how you’re going to get to and from the party.

Hotels

Hotels are a relatively pricier option for your Full Moon Party stay; however, you can be more confident in what you’re getting. Because of the additional cost, hotels tend to be more predictable when it comes to your stay.

Generally speaking, hotels will have more amenities in the rooms, tour and activity booking on-site, and other service-oriented amenities.

It is more likely they will have a dining option on-site as well as conveniences like a pool. The rooms may also be nicer and potentially larger with western style bathroom features.

Resorts

Resorts, sometimes all-inclusive, represent the most expensive option for Full Moon Party accommodation. While there are some resorts on Koh Phangan, the majority of resorts can be found on the neighboring island of Koh Samui.

Similar to hotels, you are paying a premium for this type of accommodation. However, you can rest assured that you’re staying in the nicest rooms on the nicest properties with the best service.
